Legacy, Leadership, and Modern Adolescence: Preparing the next generation for success and wellbeing

This Masterclass, based on Maggie Dent’s groundbreaking 2024 book, Help Me Help My Teen challenges issues families face guiding their children through adolescence while managing significant wealth, responsibility, and societal expectations.

Adolescence has always been a time of huge transformation. For teens from prominent families, navigating this complex landscape extends beyond traditional coming-of-age challenges. They face heightened scrutiny on social media, increased pressure to maintain family reputations and the delicate balance of privilege with personal identity development. Digital footprints, cybersecurity concerns, and exposure to wealth-targeted risks create additional layers of complexity in their journey to adulthood.

Drawing on up-to-date research, a survey of modern teens and her own experiences as a teacher, counsellor, mother and teen, Maggie will provide clear and compassionate ‘what to do’ advice for some of the most difficult topics such as:

  • Creating boundaries around technology use while leveraging its benefits for education and growth
  • Managing privacy and security in an interconnected digital world
  • Developing authentic leadership qualities and personal identity separate from family wealth
  • Addressing mental health and wellness with discretion and effectiveness
  • Navigating sensitive topics such as sex, drugs and alcohol
  • Building resilience and self-reliance in young people who have access to significant resources
  • Navigating peer relationships, social pressures, and expectations unique to affluent communities
  • Fostering financial literacy and responsible decision-making while maintaining family values

This Masterclass offers actionable guidance for parents seeking to raise grounded, capable leaders who can confidently manage both personal challenges and future responsibilities.
